About the project

Ha Giang is a mountainous province in Northern Vietnam that borders Yunnan, China. HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation previously donated funds to build homestays for the locals, in order to promote sustainable tourism in the area.
However, the villagers still need help to communicate the value of their culture and their villages to foreign tourists.

Project Ha Giang 2019 (May 27-June 14), jointly arranged with Actxplorer Vietnam, aims to help the villagers to do this through modern, digital means, and educate the volunteers about rural, sustainable tourism and design methods, as well as bridging the community and the students.

Project Objectives:
● Poverty eradication through promoting and facilitating growth of ecotourism
● Reduce inequality between rural and urban Vietnam
● Empowerment of rural villagers who belong to the ethnic minority

Are you interested in Vietnamese culture, tourism, sustainability, graphic design and/or marketing? Are you willing to get your hands dirty? Do you want to spend a few weeks of your summer learning and contributing to a rural community? Apply now!

Application form
Application deadline February 25th

*application is not limited to students, but non-HKU students will not get funded.

We are currently applying for funding from HKU, but there is a possibility that each student will need to pay around 4000-5000 HKD excluding the flights (if we get funding, all fees within Vietnam will be covered). We will confirm this as soon as possible.
